The miller moth population is high this year due to a mild winter. There is not a concern about a large moth Migration at this time.
To stop attracting the Moths you should turn off all unnecessary lights or substitute regular light bulbs on your porch with yellow lights. The moths don't like the yellow bulbs.
It does not do any good to spray a room or directly on the moth with something like Raid. Insecticides have little or no effect in controlling Millers. The moths are not very susceptible to insecticides. Furthermore, any moths killed will rapidly be replaced by new moths that migrate into the area nightly.
“In an effort to foster sustainability and recycling of hazardous material, we are enacting an EXCHANGE program for self-help items including light bulbs, batteries, furnace filters, water filters, hood range filters and stovetop drip bowls. Residents should bring ALL used items to exchange for a new one of like kind. This is a 1 for 1 exchange. PLEASE be sure to bring each used item with you when you come to self help as we will only issue the same quantity as we receive from you. Because we have different materials spec’d for different homes throughout USAFA, this will alleviate a staff member having to guess which item may be appropriate for your home when issuing to you. Should you have any questions regarding this policy please call your neighborhood Maintenance Office at (719) 867-WORK (9675).”
